Two shamans that committed sexual assault have received two different sentences.

On the 20th, the Jeju District Court sentenced a shaman, Kim (40) to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenager. Kim made the victim receive shamanic education in November 2017 and told her, "If you don't receive God there will be a storm in your family and home. For the next eight months you have to have a relationship with me or else your whole family will be killed."

The Jeju court acknowledged that "Kim had committed sex crimes using "hierarchy" by intimidating his victim who was a minor into relying on him and the girl had no choice but to comply out of fear that her family would be in danger."

Another shaman Kim (46) sexually assaulted a woman in her 30s using a similar method.

In August 2017, the victim was introduced to the second shaman by an acquaintance through Katalk chat. The acquaintance told the victim that the shaman was a smart fortune teller. The woman soon fell in love with a man A that Kim had matched her with using her personal information and family relationship.

Later Kim demanded she have sex with the man A and stated, "The sun won't come out because there's a lot built up. If you don't do as I say you'll get sick and your family business will be ruined."

But it turned out that the man the shaman had asked her to have sex with was himself. Kim played a double role and pretended to be the man A that he recommended as a match by using information secretly leaked by the acquaintance that connected them.

Later the woman discovered the ruse and filed a complaint against the shaman for rape. But the court stated that "the victim wasn't threatened, a requirement in alleging rape" and acquitted him.

  1. [+1,810, -38] He's not innocent either. There's no difference between the two. The only difference is who judged the case..
  2. [+688, -22] How is he innocent? Are they serious? He committed a crime and they're blaming it on the woman? She needs to file an appeal with the Appeals Court.
  3. [+571, -18] Isn't what he did basically a threat? How is this any different than blackmail? Are they blaming the victim right now because she was stupid enough to fall for it? Is this a comedy? This is a premeditated sex crime. He's guilty as can be.
  4. [+344, -17] Don't you know fortune tellers are crooks? All they do is take advantage of hard-working people for their crimes
  5. [+86, -9] That mental control ㅋㅋㅋㅋ. And he's at the level of a priest? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ crazy
  6. [+55, -3] So they're saying she needs to take responsibility for getting fooled ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ. Expose that judge's name on the internet.
  7. [+46, -4] The judge is basically saying she chose to get raped because she's an adult woman. No matter how many adult women got fooled and had sex the other person wasn't some other man but the shaman himself. This is rape...so did the shaman get raped then?ㅋㅋ
  8. [+44, -2] This is the first time in my life to hear a victim being asked to take responsibility for getting deceived.
What are your thoughts on the case?
